tomorrow's turkey day, and no plans yet. the fam has been noncommital as usual, and i officially give up. so much for my overly grand thanksgiving feast plans involving all the kids.
in other news, my mom accidentally burned our house to the ground saturday morning. okay, not really. just the garage. on the upside, i was awakened by six trucks full of cute firemen running through the house. i mean: on the upside, no one was hurt and little other than some drywall and garage junk was damaged. luckily, our neighbors saw the fire and saved us from ourselves. god knows we'd probably have slept through it (brother and i) or just inadvertantly continued starting fires (mother) (dad wasn't home). and people wonder why i'm such a pyro; meet my mother, mrs. pyromaniac anand.
other than that, the move back seems to be officially complete and relatively comfortable. novurbia is pleasant and suburban as ever. i've had plenty to do, and tons of fun catching up with people.
i've emptied and returned the rental truck. since then, my room has been a veritable fortress of boxes o' junk. the blockade has kept sammy at bay, and the firemen were NOT amused by my intimidating display of materialism. i kinda' like it, though; even though the boxes aren't too soft or cushiony, it's kinda' like that padded room i've always wanted. no room to walk, plenty of stuff to fall on, and occasional gaps to twist an ankle in. surprisingly enough, i've managed to find the few things i've looked for with minimal unpacking (walkman, running shoes, the new shalini), and have resisted unpacking the mammoth suitcase. i know this may come as a surprise to some of you, but i've been more than comfortable recycling the same pair of jeans and three shirts (oh, and the "got root?" visor -- people despise it here as much as they did in charlotte) since i've moved back ;)
so yeah, things are okay. i'm not nearly as emotional as i was before. i guess it's because the decision part is over. now i just have to make do with my decision. and i can deal with that. working from home is fun, too. coffee's cheaper, my cube is bigger, the bathroom's closer, sammy is here, and i get to dress like even more of a slob. come to think of it, i'm STILL in sweats. <sigh> life's not so bad. :)
more details as events warrant. unless my computer gets burned down.
